Wildlife & Birdwatching
Birds!
Snettisham Beach, just down the road, is the RSPB's principal East Coast reserve. Through the winter thousands of migrating birds flock to Snettisham Beach to feed on the mud flats, then rise as one as the high tides come in, creating their astonishing murmurations. Meanwhile thousands of wintering geese fly over us morning and evening. Spine-tingling! Amazing sights, however much or little you know about birds.
Birdwatchers will also love Heacham, Holme and the RSPB reserve at Titchwell Marsh, all just a short drive along the coast.
Coast & Beaches
Long walks, beaches and outdoor activities
The North Norfolk coast is famous for its vast skies and breathtaking, apparently endless sandy beaches. Watch the sunset over the sea from Hunstanton's striped cliffs, or stroll the wide open sands at Brancaster and Holkham.
Make the most of the fresh coastal air with a round of golf, a cycle along quiet country lanes, or a day on the water, sailing, windsurfing or paddle boarding. You could also take a boat trip or try kite flying on the beach. Then come back to The Rose & Crown for a well-earned drink by the fire!
And children and dogs will love it!
Historic Houses & Gardens
Sandringham, Houghton and Holkham
All a short drive away Sandringham’s wooded grounds provide acres of walking where dogs are allowed off the lead and there is a huge,amazing adventure playground. Tours are available of the house and there is a good gift shop for Royal souveniers.
Lovely Houghton Hall with its wonderful walled garden stages a sculpture show in the grounds every summer. Holkham is grand with beautiful parkland and lots going on. Add castles, ancient churches and timeless flint villages, and there's enough to fill many a happy day.

Shops, galleries, farmers markets, craft shops and art open days. Check the local listings. But swallow your credit cards first!

Have you ever visited Walsingham Abbey or Castle Acre? Anywhere else in the world, there would be queues to see these wonderful ruined buildings, but here you will probably only have only the odd robin for company. Hop in the car and go and go and take a look.
